  • Why property?

Property is the preferred investment class for wealthy investors making up the largest share of their investment portfolio. Property markets rise and fall, but the long term trend is upwards because of growing populations, urbanization, and people’s desire to improve their living standards.

After seeing profitable returns on my property investments, I reached a point when I could no longer be a part-time entrepreneur and decided to make a decision between corporate life and being my own businessman. I then decided to form IP Global with a vision of marrying both corporate credentials, research and risk management with the speed and maneuverability of a small business. Property provided me with the opportunity to invest in something tangible, something I could hang my hat on, whilst seeing high returns.

Property is something that is here for the long term and one of the most profitable types of investment often outperforming other assets classes, this makes investing in property a no-brainer. Although property investment is sometimes criticized for its lack of liquidity, as it can take months to sell a property, whereas stocks and bonds can change hands by the split second. That can hamper investors who need to cash out quickly, but the clunky nature of property investment also means that housing markets tend to move in line with long-term fundamentals of supply and demand, economic growth and household income rather than in a knee-jerk way like other asset classes.

  • What are your top property investment tips?

    • Leave emotions aside when investing, only invest in a property if it makes sound financial sense
    • Investors should settle on a location first before considering which agent or developer to buy from
    • Conduct your own research and due diligence on the market and developer
    • Consider tenants and future perspective buyers, proximity to schools and transports links will be vital to perspective tenants and buyers
  • Do you think now is a good time to buy property?

Yes, good property investment opportunities can be found in all stages of the property cycle. Property markets rise and dip, but the long-term trend is upwards because of growing populations, urbanization, and people's desire to improve their living standards.

Before embarking on any investment is important for investors to do their own research and understand the domestic market. Investors should focus on recovering developed economies and emerging markets supported by strong economic fundamentals.
